Mexico City Ideathon

Mexico City, Mexico

In collaboration with Mota Engil Mexico’s Laboratorio para Mejorar Nuestras Ciudades, MIT’s Norman B. Leventhal Center for Advanced Urbanism (LCAU) and DesignX launched a joint initiative to accelerate the energy transition in Mexico through research, innovation, and civic engagement.

The program opened with an Ideathon hosted at CDIT Vallejo-i in Mexico City in partnership with the city’s Secretaría de Educación, Ciencia, Tecnología e Innovación (SECTI), bringing together over 200 participants from universities and industry to generate ideas at the intersection of clean energy, water, materials, and education. From that process, 30 solutions were developed and presented, and applications were subsequently opened for the DesignX Accelerator, through which eight entrepreneur teams were selected for mentorship, with one team ultimately awarded funding to build a working prototype.
